THE WEATHER IN THE AMAZON REGION – WHEN TO GO
The rainy season lasts from February to June. The river waters rise during the rainy season and flood the jungle. The jungle trails are also flooded and can be travelled in canoes, providing a unique experience with the surrounding nature. The rising waters will allow you to be closer to the treetops and you will be able to see local animals sharing this space with bromeliads and small reptiles.
The dry season runs from October to January. During this season, you can go trekking on trails in the jungle, always in small groups, led by local tour guides. You will be able to see the lush native vegetation and observe the “sumaúma,” the highest tree in the region. Rainfall starts in the beginning of January which is when the river waters rise and the temperature is milder. It is a memorable experience to observe rainfalls in the Amazon.
River waters rise to higher levels by mid-March and the jungle is flooded. At this time, the local riverside communities start to harvest manioc and prepare the manioc flour. For those who like peace and quiet, this is the best time to visit the region, because it is the low season for tourism.
